Engineering Department

The Engineering Department ensures that the developments in the City are in compliance with the Council’s development plans, Town Planning Regulations, subdivisions of land bylaws under the Local Government Act Cap 125 and other relevant by laws that enable the Council to enforce and maintain compliance with Planning & Development requirements.

Key Functions include: –

Managing Council’s Civil section

Approve subdivision scheme plans, rezoning applications, engineering plans, survey plans, prepare budgets for capital projects and ensure that proper maintenance of all Council properties, infrastructure and service amenities

  1. Assets
    Previously known as the Works Department, The Assets Department manages the heart of all development and maintenance works that is carried throughout the City.
    Key works include:
    • Drain maintenance
    • Council property Maintenance.
    • Street sweeping.
    • Grass cutting.
    • Installation and upkeep of all Council signage.
    • Installation and upkeep of rubbish bins (markets, parks and street side).
    • Installation and upkeep of park and street furniture.
    • Undertake council’s in-house projects
  2. Projects
    The council with the approval of the Ministry of Local Government allocates a budget to undertake capital projects for infrastructure development and to improve the lively hood of all Fijians and in return generate added revenue for the council. The council is currently embarking on the following projects: –
    • Night Food Market Project at Namoli Green
    • Proposed Podium with Associated Facilities at Shirley Park
    • Proposed Coffee Shop at the Botanical Garden Site.
    • Extension of the car park on the East end of Existing Narara Parade car park.
