- Lautoka City Council will conduct “FREE ENVIRONMENT CLEAN UP CAMPAIGN” effective from SEPTEMBER 5, 2022 to OCTOBER 14, 2022 within Lautoka City.
- Residents are requested to take advantage of the “Free Environment Clean Up Campaign” and to thoroughly clean up their compounds taking special care in removing any articles, containers or wastes likely to retain water and harbour mosquitoes, such as empty cans, bottles, old tyres, coconut shells, discarded household utensils etc.
- Please take notice that this “Free Environment Cleanup Campaign” is for residential areas only and includes removal of all backyard waste such as tree branches, other mosquito breeding materials, grass, tyres and not for industrial refuse, trade waste or commercial refuse. For commercial and industrial waste such as metals, derelict vehicles, construction wastes etc., the council may waive all disposal fees if refuse is taken by owners to the Vunato Disposal Site from SEPTEMBER 4, 2022 to OCTOBER 14, 2022 with prior approval from Council or you are to pay nominal fee to council for removal.
- The COLLECTION TEAM will go through the streets ONCE ONLY and the council will not be responsible for the removal of any refuse placed after the collection is done in the streets. You are requested to place all refuse (3-5 days) prior to the Collection Dates or before the truck arrives in the area.
- All residents are also requested to place the refuse for removal in a convenient place away from fire hydrants, water valves, water meters, sewerage chambers, telephone and electrical pillar boxes and also to avoid blocking driveways or access ways to avoid damages.
- Any person found abandoning or depositing refuse/ litter without following appropriate instructions will be issued spot fine of $40.00 under Litter Promulgation 2008 and may be liable for legal proceedings.
- The council will continue to provide “user pay” service for those who intend to clear refuse outside the tentative timetable at nominal costs per load i.e. $40.25- Garden Refuse, $41.00-Mixed Refuse, $39.50- Commercial Waste, $44.25 for Trade and Industrial Waste. (Other machinery charges also apply)
